GPS

I work in an insurance office and we STILL have paper Atlases that we give to our policyholders. Believe it or not, we do still have customers who request them!

  • GPS= Global Positioning System or Global Positioning Satellite  1-GPS

I do not have one! I’m not even the least bit excited about getting one either. Whether it’s age related non-acceptance of new technology or just being stubborn… I don’t want one and it is not on my Christmas list. I have always found maps fascinating and love to check out where places are and how to get there. I like to see the broad perspective of where I’m going and not from a little 3-6 inch square box that my bifocals’ do not want to focus on!

And the talking ones… why would I want to be sitting in my car behind the wheel and let this unknown voice tell me where to go! How do I know where they’re sending me? Why should I put my TRUST in that little box on my dash? I’ve heard the horror stories of those not on “real time” and/or not “updated” regularly.

I heard of one where they were directed down a road and ended up in the lake…it was night, I guess and they couldn’t see where they were going? And another where the road had been closed and the bridge was out, and because the GPS sent them that way…they drove around the blockade and off the cliff into the river! Go Figure… (Get the Point Stupid and NO I’m NOT calling “YOU” Stupid). But you do get the point right?

Of course, I do realize these horror stories have been embellished and sensationalized for our enjoyment… but could they be true?

I really think my problem with this DeVICE is that it is telling me what streets to drive on, where to turn, and I’m just not ready to sit passively behind the wheel and let something else into my life that’s “telling me where to go and what to do”.  I know, I know… I’m putting in the information of where I want to end up… but I just have this sneaking feeling that this “talking box” has a mind of its own embedded somewhere deep in its technical bowels.

Now, I will refrain from taking this further and making a spiritual application at this time. However, I’m sure you do see where I could go with it and I’m sure it has been done before. Let me roll those thoughts around some more in my “gray matter” before the words become complete sentences and “profound” thought!  :-D

If you have a GPS relax…I don’t care. Enjoy your toy, just don’t let it take control! Be aware of your surroundings and where you’re really going!

I do recommend keeping a MAP handy!  Your GPS could go down!

Happy traveling!

Change is in the air… and Random thoughts…

Yes, change is in the air.  I can feel it every where, change is on its way!

Driving home from work last night I realized I was cold for the first time this fall.

Oct 2010- Autumn Walk-Misc 081 I am sitting here early this morning (I had to turn the heat on) listening to the rain outside my window.  Oh, we need the rain!!

We really do need the rain here in Southeastern Tennessee, but we need the REAL RAIN to fall… pour it on us LORD GOD ALMIGHTY.  Yes, change is truly on the way! …and not just the physical seasonal change.

There are so many changes that are taking place in each of our lives.  Some will be affected by the political changes that are transforming our lives for better or worse.  Some of our freedoms are no longer our choice to make, some can be taken back and others are permanently changed forever.  We may lose our jobs and homes.  I’ve even read of some churches going bankrupt… this is something unheard of in the past.  But if people don’t give sacrificially…  And it is hard to give when you’ve lost a job, etc.

The above is a subtle warning that there is a GREAT CHANGE coming our way…but it is merely a feeble stepping stone to the GREAT CHANGE.   I know that I have a HOPE that some do not share…  this WORLD is not my final resting place… I’m on a journey that will end someday and only then will my journey be completed.  I have the best guide and map available.  Lightening Storm

How I travel this journey, the way I walk, talk, my attitude, how I treat others and how I treat my fellow traveler (other Believers) will determine my reward. Isn’t it strange how we sometimes treat our own family and fellow travelers?  We give more respect and love to complete strangers than to our family and fellow believers.  I guess that’s the FLESH speaking and acting out!

I’m not exactly sure what I’m feeling! Even the unease of the unknown is not pre-empted by the fact that I have the HOPE of ETERNAL LIFE that no one on this earth can take from me.  God didn’t promise us a Rose Garden on this earth and a blissful life with no problems.  But He did promise us salvation!

The Bible tells us we are to be joyous in persecution for His sake (Oh my… I thought we were to blast everyone and everything that we didn’t believe in or was not to our liking!??? I’m not being facetious about standing up for the Word of God, but this world is not our home… remember?).  I’m not saying speaking up is wrong… but I am saying how we speak up, and what we say is very important to the salvation of this world.  Yes, there are times when we must be blunt and to the point… but it must be spoken with true love and compassion.  We must reflect the LOVE of JESUS to others.  If they cannot see that reflection…then our words and life have been lived in vain!

Oh CHANGE…what are you going to surprise us with?

Wow... long time

Whew...I see it has been months since I've written on this blog. I guess FB (facebook) and my other blog (http://heartwhispers.wordpress.com/) has had my attention the last few months. I plan to redo this blog some and use it for a different purpose than just general posting.

Please be patient with me while I revamp and reorganize.

Some more…

We have had some beautiful weather the last few days. NO RAIN…NO HUMIDITY… and temps in the upper 60’s and lower 70’s during the day and low 50’s at night. My kind of weather. While I hate to see Winter coming… I do love the Autumn season. I love fall colors…the earthy hues with brilliant oranges and yellows thrown in occasionally. I find autumn to be energizing and find myself getting ready for “nesting”… aren’t we supposed to nest and stay inside in the winter… you know, hibernate!? I wish that were true! LOL

I do enjoy all the seasons… but the summer humidity is not kind to my disposition…or body! I can get pretty cranky when I can’t breathe the “thick” air that surrounds me with its clinging, sweaty choke hold! I don’t mind the warm, even HOT weather… I grew up in Southern Cal, so I know HOT. But the humidity drains me down to a whimpering puppy. I think it came with age… while not LIKING it when I was younger… I don’t remember HATING it like I do now!

Well, enough about “H”! Here’s some “random” photos I think you might enjoy.

I must run… off to work. Today is FRIDAY! Hip Hip Hooray!!!! I’m at the office by myself today. Hope it’s not busy! I can get some filing done and other organizing!

I really didn’t forget…

DSC00829

It’s been a crazy few weeks.  Actually, this summer was a flurry of activity and seemed to whiz by quickly.  I simply cannot believe it’s really September 1st today.  It seems like just a few days ago that I was looking forward to the Summer months.

We moved the insurance office to a new location the last weekend in May and we opened the new office June 1st.  It gives us so much more room and the parking is wonderful.  Hopefully we will increase our book of business since we have good exposure to the main road now with easy access!

Other than traveling to Wisconsin in April for (our oldest grandson) Brian and Tina’s wedding and an overnighter in Nashville at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel, we haven’t traveled or been camping this year!  I hope to go camping sometime this month… but I’m not sure when or how we’ll work that out since there’s several upcoming meetings in September.

Our Great-granddaughter Chloe, turned 3 years old this August 25th and Micah our grandson turned 11 in August too!  Brock our 2nd oldest grandson  turned 16 in April and Kailee our only granddaughter turned 15 in February.  They are growing up too fast for me.  Especially so, since they don’t live close to me now.

So far, Bud is enjoying his forced retirement.  He’s found plenty to do and not to do  **grin**.  I’ve offered to provide a list but he doesn’t think he needs one.

Just keeping you posted and to let you know I have some thoughts and notes I’m working on and will be writing soon.  Don’t give up on me yet…  My heart is full, I’ve just got to find the time to write!

Have a blessed week with Jesus… He’s there ALL the time!

Life...Living...Loving

I know, it's been awhile since I've blogged. It's been a busy time for our household the last few weeks.
First, Bud was laid-off from his job along with about 35 other men in his department. Downsizing finally hit the hospital. Fortunately, he has been there long enough (10-years) that he was offered severance. This of course helps for the next couple months. Trusting God for our future.
Second, we left for Wisconsin Wednesday morning of the 15th. Stopped in Southern Illinois to pick up our middle son, Jason and got into New Berlin, WI around 12 midnight or so. It was a long trip and we ended up going through Chicago anyway as we somehow missed our direction in Decatur, IL. But since we were going through there around 10:45 pm... it was breeze! I grew up driving around Las Angeles... so traffic, etc. doesn't bother me... I'm just kind of lazy about driving now and didn't want to go through Chicago. Oh well, it made me appreciate my "little city" of Chattanooga. If I want the BIG city, I'm less than 2-hours from Atlanta,GA.
P1010043 We were heading to Wisconsin for our oldest grandson's wedding. Tim(Brian as we call him) and Christina(Tina) became husband and wife on Friday the 17th. He was handsome and she was a beautiful bride. Our granddaughter, Kailee was a bridesmaid, and she was gorgeous. Chloe, our great-granddaughter, and Brian and Tina's daughter was the flower girl. She was adorable. I enjoyed my time with her.
P1010051
They had a beautiful warm sunny day for their wedding.
They took photos at a park not too far from the church, Apostolic Life Tabernacle in Waukesha, WI. Papa Bud performed the ceremony. It's neat, because he performed the marriage ceremony for all three of his sons and now his first-born grandson! Time sure whizzes by!
P1010029
Mother and daughter before the wedding. Tina's youngest brother is standing to the left admiring his sister. She was beautiful!
P1010022
Right: Brian surprised Tina with "something blue" after the rehearsal.

Chloe getting ready to practice her "flower girl"... although, she called it being a "princess".

Awwwww....how sweet!

Our beautiful granddaughter, Kailee

Chloe loved her Uncle Jay. He played with her. She asked him "where you come from?" She didn't remember  P1010101seeing him before. She climbed up and patted his cheeks with both hands and then rubbed noses.
P1010005

One tired little girl. She finally gave up.

P1010114
She definitely is her granny's girl... she loves her coffee!!!!!

Chloe enjoying herself at the reception!

P1010068

I've more photos and have the cd that my daughter, Terri gave me. I'll get those posted soon.

Bud had the 7-day flu and was sick the whole time of our visit. We "doctored" him up for the rehearsal and the wedding ceremony and then he made a brief appearance at the reception and Tim took him back to the apartment so he could go back to bed. He was in bed the whole time we were there and on the drive up and back home. He ran a 102.3 fever and was almost delirious. At one point, I thought I might have to take him to the hospital. He was miserable and I didn't get much sleep either. I drove up and back. I drove home in one day... thank God for books on tape! Kept me awake. We got home around 1:30-2:00 am Monday morning. I was exhausted. His fever and illness finally broke early Wednesday morning. He said he felt like he'd been in a thick fog. I asked him if he even remembered the ceremony :) and he said he did!!!

Well, enough for now... will try to post again soon.

You never know what you'll find...

Spring is in the air... it’s 72 degrees here today and a beautiful day.

Closet Shopping...

We are still “de-cluttering” and I have been going shopping in my closet. This has been great for my pocketbook. In digging through all the green plastic bins and the back of my closet, I have found clothes I’d forgotten I had and still are quite fashionable with adding a few accessories. Some of course are WAY too small and I really don’t have a hope of ever getting back into them. But some I’m very close to wearing again and should be able to in a few months. Since I’ve been sticking pretty closely to my ADA diet, I’ve lost a few pounds. I just need to get serious about the walking and the exercise!

Bud carried off 6-HUGE bags of clothes to the thrift store Friday and we still have a lot to sort through. I promised myself if I dropped it in the bag, I couldn’t take it back out! So far so good! Now we need to start on his!

Bud’s next project after he’s through setting up the canoe as a bog garden/fish pond is to clean and reorganize the garage. Although, our garage does not even begin to look like some in our neighborhood. We are in a subdivision that was built in the late 70’s & early 80’s, so most of the kids are off to college or married and the garages are so packed you cannot even walk through them. I know, I’ve seen them with my own eyes. Ours isn’t quite that bad, yet! I hope never. We do have some of our kids stuff in the garage and under the stairwell in the basement. But you can (carefully) walk through our garage.

To give you an idea of how we classify as genuine “packrats”... I have a bonnet hair-dryer in A-1 condition from when I was in high school. I kid you not! I still have my Brother Word processor with the black screen and bright yellow font! Again, in A-1 condition. Know anyone who would like to acquire these items? Please let me know! I just might get up enough gumption to part with them (and more). Bud just purchased a book and when he got home realized he had the original 1936 version. I can’t say too much to him as I’ve done the same thing and bought a book twice. We are so bad! They change the book covers on you now and republish the same book with a different cover and supposedly an “updated” version.

I have (kind of) promised our kids that we would sort through all the clutter and OLD PAPERS so they wouldn’t have too when that time comes. I’m afraid they wouldn’t go through all the bins and boxes and would just set a dumpster in the drive and start chucking. Although, I do believe they realize some of the “stuff” has value, monetarily and as family heirlooms/keepsakes.

Well, we will keep plodding along on the de-cluttering process. But it will have to wait until I get through my CE study and exams for my State License renewal. Then I have to take my companies BANK course and exam. All this before our Tennessee District Ladies Conference March 19-21! I’ll be ready for a break and a time of REFRESHING!

I want to be outside digging in the flowerbeds getting my hands dirty and feeling the soil sift through my fingers.

Have a blessed weekend and enjoy...while I go back to my studies!

A NEW Baby

P1010023

This is our newest "baby" in the church.  I actually got to see him being born!  Nickolas Ray.  He's the firstborn son of Derik and Sharon and grandson of Ray and Sandy.

He was dedicated last Sunday evening.  I can't wait until he's up and running.    :)

Days to come...

My last post was on "Days Gone By..." the history of our lives.

At some point in our life the realization that our days are numbered and God is the one who knows that number really becomes a loudly proclaimed TRUTH.

I suppose the subject of mortality has been in the back of my mind ever since my "cancer" diagnosis a few years ago.  Once "death" almost smacks you in the face I think one begins to "think" a little differently about "life and living".  You begin to review your "living" of life and what may once have been so important suddenly becomes the "least" important on your list. One's outlook on life drastically changes.  Your WINDOW's view of the WORLD is different today than it was yesterday when you thought your life was in your own hands.  We never "expect" to die. We always think that's for older people and until it hits your own life or family it seems distant.

Yes, I believe God is totally in control of my life.  Yes, I believe in His faithfulness, and love.  No, I'm not doubting His mercy and goodness.  He is GOD and He is GOOD all the time.  Yes, I believe in His WORD.  I love His Word.  I love to feel His presence HUG me and I love to feel His Shekinah Glory sweep over the congregation during a church service.  I love God with ALL my Heart, Mind, and Soul!!

I KNOW He's there through all of life's twists and turns, ups and downs.  Yes, He's there!  Even during a trying day full of trials and hardships... He's there and I know he's there!  Some of my days are not perfect in this imperfect world I live in... but He's there!  I'm not giddy with a school-girl infatuation, I've a deep rooted love and JOY in my Salvation!

When "those days" come... I can begin to "Praise Him" and praise right through the trial.  I've had the Holy Ghost since just after my 8th Birthday... He has never disappointed me.  I'm not one of His perfect children (are there any?)... I have my days when I have to get a grip on my attitude.  I work with the public everyday and I cannot reflect inner feelings to my clients.

I'm one of those pilgrims who are on a journey through this world and I'm headed for the PROMISE Land.  The path may be rough at times... but there's always the "refreshing time" of His presence when He's walking right beside us, leading and guiding us on that path.

As a pastor's wife of 40-years, I've seen those newly birthed struggle with the cares and concerns of life and sometimes the baggage of their past life seems to cling tightly.  My concern is that we pray, teach, and be REAL people to these who struggle with trials and tribulations.

Time marches on... tomorrow will be here in about 4 minutes!  I want to be REAL to Art-God's Hand Reachingthose who enter into the realm of my life and through the doors of our church.  I want to encourage them... "you can make it through".  Hold tightly to those out stretched hands.

Maybe some who are reading this think I'm being "un-joyful", I'm not!  But I've seen the hurting, the helpless, and the hopeless.  Our cities are full of them.  My heart goes out to those who are "forgotten" or "overlooked" and I'm not just talking about the homeless.

And there go I, except by the grace and mercy of God...

I never want to forget that could be me.  Yes, I'm thankful I was raised in a God-fearing Pentecostal-Apostolic home.  Yes, I'm thankful for Sunday School teachers and ministers/pastors who taught the Word.  I'm thankful for the fellowship of my Brothers and Sisters in the LORD.  I'm thankful for a husband/pastor who preaches and teaches God's Word.  I am blessed!

Well Tomorrow has arrived...and it's another Day I choose to purposely live for Jesus.

Let's be REAL for JESUS... I always think of the "Velveteen Rabbit" story... I want to have bare spots, torn spots, lose an ear or eye, come unstitched with the stuffing hanging out from  being "used" everyday.  I want to be vulnerable, open and willing to be used anyway He wants to use me.    I don't want to be stuck on the shelf and never taken down.

Let Him choose me, that's my prayer!

Days Gone By...

January 2009 is almost past... wow!  Time is rapidly progressing.  Yesterdays seem to beclock coming faster and faster and tomorrows arrive too quickly!  We are in the FUTURE before we even realize it.  Our days become HISTORY much to swiftly.

I remember when I was very young and thinking that summer was forever!  The days seemed endless and we played "outside" from early morning until late at night.  Then some where in my span of life... the days started getting shorter and shorter.  It seems I no sooner get to bed than it's time to wake up!

The phrase "Days Gone By" popped into my head while I was reading my Bible during my morning quiet time.  I'm still pondering all that it implies.

biblestudies_I was reading and thinking, we don't always remember that these are REAL people with REAL problems so similar to us today.  Relationships, financial, clean water and edible food, worship, belief, faith, doubts and on and on...  Yes, REAL people just like we are today.  Same desires emotionally, physically, and spiritually...  Same "intentions" of doing what is RIGHT in God's sight...  And yes, we have the same struggles in keeping those good and desirable intentions.

Why do we fight so hard and struggle against the powers of this World?  That's the warfare of the OLD carnal fleshly nature and our NEW nature filled with His Spirit!  I've seen New Converts (and some not so new) struggle and wrestle with these two natures and decide they just don't have the energy to "keep on keeping on".

Why is it so hard?  My thinking is... we just don't totally "give up" and submit to His Spirit and His Will for our lives.

What's the saying:

Live HARD for Jesus and it's easy...  Live EASY and it's hard.

I may have messed that quote up some, but you get my point.  Whenever we put our mind to do and live RIGHT that's when the struggle truly begins.  Spiritual Growth occurs during those struggles.  Endurance... Enduring... Patience... Waiting... those are words that many of us just don't like to hear.  We are a NOW generation and I admit, when I've set my mind to do something, I want to do it now!  I want to "git er dun" too!  It's hard for me to realize God may not want "it" done right now!    Sarah (and Abraham) jumped ahead of God's plan... Rebekah took it upon herself to orchestrate God's plan... and on it goes.  Aren't we just as guilty?

I'm not sure we'll totally master this "struggle" until we are "outta here"... but I'm trying and I'll keep on trying!  I've found that in my humanity and struggle to be totally dependent on God and His Will (and not trying to manipulate Him)...  He's so patient, longsuffering, and compassionate, ever loving!

I can see His tender look and hear His quiet loving voice filled with patience:

Daughter, daughter, you just don't know... wait and see...

Bless the LORD, O my soul...

 2-Woman in Prayer

I woke this morning with a heavy heart and "my spirit" was downhearted.  Not totally aware of the reason for my downheartedness, I worked through the morning, being careful NOT to let my spirit reflect outwardly.

At 1:30pm I jumped into my car for my hour lunch break thinking I was going to run some errands like I usually do.  I soon found myself  parked in a parking lot just down the street from where I work, asking myself "what am I doing here?"  I soon discovered the reason I had parked.

Grabbing my Bible out of my satchel, I opened immediately to Psalm 103... these words jumped out at me: (the underlining is my emphasis)

Bless the LORD, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name!

Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits.

I then read on:

Who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases.

Who redeems your life from destruction, who crowns you with loving kindness and tender mercies,

Who satisfies your mouth with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's.

The LORD executes righteousness and justice for all who are oppressed.

He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the children of Israel.

The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in mercy.

Read all the verses... but then again beginning with vs.17:

But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear Him, and His righteousness to children's children.

To such as keep His covenant, and to those who remember His commandments to do them.

The LORD has established His throne in heaven and His kingdom rules over all.   (Read on...)

The last verse of Psalm 103:

Bless the LORD, all His works, in all places of His dominion.  Bless the LORD, O my soul.

Well, needless to say, after reading this chapter... my heart was once again refreshed and full of God's love and mercy and my faith and trust in His will was strengthened!  How could I ever have doubts about His will?  After all these years.... you'd think I'd have learned to trust Him in ALL things, right?  Be honest though... you have your moments or days too.  But WE Don't STAY there!  We press on toward the prize...

I still am not totally sure what the heavy heart was all about... but I know that when He is ready to show me, He will !!  One can always find just what is needed and Closed Bible2008required for the soul through prayer and His precious WORD!

I have never been disappointed in God's response to my prayers!

My afternoon was much better than my morning!  I was re-assured of His love and mercy and so thankful for His longsuffering!  God is Good ALL the time!

I'm thankful I have that hour during the middle of the day to "touch base" with Him when the morning quiet time just wasn't long enough!  He is so gracious to "reach out" and meet me there!

It's Here...2009!

I'll be quite honest, when I was young, I never thought I would see this year, let alone 2000.  It seemed so far away, a distant realm never to be reached.  Whew, it has sped toward me like lightening streaking from the heavenlies!

Bud and I celebrated our 41st wedding anniversary December 24th and while we didn't do anything special yet, as we were in Missouri with Fred's family, we will plan something.  My boss always gives me a gift card to a local restaurant for Christmas to use for our anniversary and we enjoy that, especially since it's free!  :)

This past year has in some ways been an unusual year.  Bud was busy with trips to Illinois caring for his mother and then her death on Easter Sunday.

P1010011 My parents moving in with us in April and adjusting to each of us no longer having an "empty nest".  We've both had some health issues... mine has been ongoing, but so far I've been blessed each time with "cancer free".  Then just before Christmas Bud's younger brother Fred lost his battle with metastatic renal carcinoma.  He fought hard to maintain a normal life right up to the end!  So, this has been quite a year for us.

P1010060 I'm "missing" my grandkids today!  I would love to see all of them and our great granddaughter, Chloe.  She's two now!!!!!  They are all growing up so fast.  Our oldest(Tim's son), Brian is 21 years old!  And Jason's P1010078son,  Brock will be 16 in April!

And Kailee  our precious granddaughter P1010081will be 15 on February 3rd.  I'm not ready for all this growing up!!!  I did get to see Micah and Gavin (Marc's sons) last week.  Micah is to my shoulder now and I'm 5'7".  He's only 10.  I think he's going to be tall like his daddy.  I hear he can play some mean ball. He's a good student too!  Little Gavin... he's my "munchkin".  He is full of little words of wisdom!  He's Papa Bud's boy... Granny Pam gets hugs, but he loves his Papa Bud.

Oh by the way, if any of my dear sons or daughters are reading this... I NEED some photos of these dear grandchildren... school pix... please!

We had our Watch Night service last night.  Started at 8pm with a break around 10:15 for sandwiches and coffee & dessert.  All our ministers spoke and then pastor spoke last with it ending right at midnight with prayer.  All spoke from their hearts.

My thoughts for the New Year:

I've been thinking about resolutions and goals.  Some people are very goal oriented almost to the point that if their goals aren't met within their allotted time they become depressed.  I am a list maker.  I do like to set goals.  However, I am not "stuck" to those goals.  Some might say... "I wouldn't even write down any goals if I had that attitude about them."    I've found that "the best laid plans of mice and men..."  :D   We have to be open to change.  God never changes, but we have to be open to change for Him.  This can be really difficult for some; to make plans and then have them totally changed.  As I mentioned, I am a list maker.  I have lists for everything!  I occasionally misplace these lists!  :D   I don't like going to the grocery store (Sam's club) without my list.  I like to get the items on my list and then, "I'm outta there".   Shopping is not one of my favorite things to do anymore!

Back to my thought... the LORD gave me this scripture in Philippians 3:13-16 for the New Year:

13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, (emphasis added)

14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
15 Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you.

16 Nevertheless, to the degree that we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us be of the same mind. (NKJ)

I love the way the Amplified reads:

13 I do not consider, brethren, that I have captured and made it my own [yet]; but one thing I do [it is my one aspiration]: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead,

14 I press on toward the goal to win the [supreme and heavenly] prize to which God in Christ Jesus is calling us upward.

15 So let those [of us] who are spiritually mature and full-grown have this mind and hold these convictions; and if in any respect you have a different attitude of mind, God will make that clear to you also.

16 Only let us hold true to what we have already attained and walk and order our lives by that.

After all... whatever goals or aspirations I have for this coming year... they should revolve around "the main goal".  "Keeping the main thing, the main thing" as Bro. Tenney's book title states.  I can't undo last years mistakes or things not accomplished, I can only begin again.  It's a new year and a new day in the LORD... I want to press/strain toward that higher calling!  He is calling us.

The "unknown" of 2009 can be daunting!  But when I was first diagnosed with cancer this came into my possession, I don't remember how or when, but I know it was during a dark, alone period of time:

"When you come to the edge of all the light you know, and are about to step off into the darkness of the unknown,

Faith is knowing one of two things will happen: there will be something solid to stand on, or you will be taught how to fly."

I've never looked to see who the author was, but the words soothed my soul and they still do!

I'm looking forward to whatever 2009 holds... I do know it has put me closer to His blessed returning, maybe sooner than I realize!

Have a blessed NEW YEAR with Jesus!

Only ONE LIFE to live...

We received a call early FRIDAY morning on the 19th of December.  Judy (sister-in-law) had called an ambulance to take Fred (my husband's younger brother) to the hospital Thursday evening.  His Oxygen level was down drastically and he was very weak.  Fred received a diagnoses, I believe this past April,  of renal cancer that had metastasized.   He fought a hard fight and had 8-months to be with family.  Everything was organized and in place for his family.  He took great care of his family.  He passed from this life on Friday evening around 6:30pm EST.

Just an example of Fred's "thinking ahead".  While there I noticed a beautiful vase of roses and a card leaning against the vase.   He had ordered these flowers the day before going into the hospital for Judy's birthday on the 26th.  That's Fred, always thinking ahead, always thoughtful.  Here is what Fred wrote on the card:

He desired an informal funeral/memorial service and that's what we did.  His older brother, my husband, spoke and then Robin his daughter gave her memories and thoughts (more than a eulogy) but spoke from her heart of what her DAD meant to her.

Teresa and Bob (his sister and brother) spoke of fond "family" memories.  Marc talked about his Uncle Fred.  And there were others who spoke fondly of Fred.

We cried, we laughed, and we cried some more.  But we did laugh and that I know is what Fred wanted us to do.  He loved family get-togethers.

Judy and me.  Judy is stronger than she realizes and while I know there will be "bad" days and moments of grief and sadness, the memories of a loving husband and father will carry her through.  She has family that loves her very much and will keep her daily in their prayers.

Maggie will miss him too

If Fred were watching us today, he would have been pleased.  He would have laughed with us and cried with us and enjoyed the grandchildren at play.  He would have added his own special memories of times past.  His spirit was there with us!  He left us with a "smile" on his face. We can only give him a "smile" in return.
